Wat Pha Pha Attractions in Mae Hong Son Mae Khatuan, Sop Moei, Mae Hong Son. Wat Pha Pha was founded by monks in collaboration with the village committee and the faithful villagers of Pha Pha in 1757 (B.E. 2300). The current abbot is Phra Kru Prawat Paphassaro, overseeing a community of three monks and four temple novices.
The historic sites and monastic structures at the temple include the Sala Khruba Pha Pha Hall, built in 1984 (B.E. 2527); the Vihara, constructed in 1984 (B.E. 2527); the first pavilion, built in 1989 (B.E. 2532); the Ordination Hall, constructed in 1992 (B.E. 2535); the monastic residences, built in 1992 (B.E. 2535); and the second pavilion, constructed in 1997 (B.E. 2540).
The temple's ancient artifacts include the Tripitaka chest, created in 2041 (B.E. 2584); the first series of Khruba Pha Pha sacred powder amulets, produced in 1963 (B.E. 2506); a statue of Khruba Pha Pha, made in 1974 (B.E. 2517); the second series of Khruba Pha Pha sacred powder amulets, crafted in 1987 (B.E. 2530); the third series of Khruba Pha Pha sacred powder amulets, produced in 1991 (B.E. 2534); and the fourth series of Khruba Pha Pha sacred powder amulets, created in 1996 (B.E. 2539).
The temple is also known for its activities and traditions. The Deun Si Peng festival is celebrated during the full moon of the fourth lunar month. The merit-making tradition of Sangkat Phat Tan Taen is observed from the twelfth to the end of the Northern Lunar Calendar year, within a one-month period. The Poi Luang tradition is held on the full moon of the Northern fourth lunar month and during the sixth month, as commonly practiced.
