The prosperity of Bang Pho Tha It increased rapidly through trade and the settlement of people from different groups. Eventually, during the reign of King Rama V, this area was elevated to “Mueang Uttaradit,” which means “the northern port.” Although it was initially still under Mueang Phichai, its continued growth led to Uttaradit being elevated to provincial status during the reign of King Rama VI, while Phichai was reduced to a district of Uttaradit Province from that time onward.

One of the most prominent is the tale of “Laplae,” the mysterious city believed to be a land of people who strictly uphold moral precepts and truthfulness.
