Ban Lek Nai Pa Yai Project (Pha Nang-Pha Koeng) Pha In Plaeng, Erawan, Loei. Her majesty Queen Sirikit was very concerned about the people of the North East who were mostly poor and, due to deforestation and shifting cultivation in many areas, had to deal with natural disasters such as floods and droughts;

she, therefore, had Col Rewat Buntap, Superintendent of the 3rd Infantry Division and Loei Province find an area for a royal project to help those who were poor and had no estate in hope of a decreased number of deforestation.

The 3rd Infantry Division chose 53 acres of land in the area of Pha Nang-Pha Koeng in Ban Pha Nang, Moo 5, Pha In Plaeng Subdistrict, Erawan District. As it lies beside mountains and has a stream, it is a perfect place for the Pa Rak Nam Royal Project’s sustainable agriculture.

The Ban Lek Nai Pa Yai Project was implemented here in 1992, during which the queen’s 60th anniversary was celebrated, in order to conserve forests, improve people’s well-being, support people’s occupations, allocate land to villagers and restore forest. The land area was later enlarged to 197 acres.

Ban Lek Nai Pa Yai Project The project includes silk weaving; handicraft making; bamboo and teak kitchen utensil making and lingzhi, shiitake and Indian oyster mushroom farming.

There is also a shop where the project’s products are sold. In addition, there are various activities to do in this area, e.g. fishing, cycling and sightseeing. Furthermore, accommodations for both individual and group visitors are provided. The project has both cabins and tents for all visitors.
