Wat Tha Nong Yang Khai is located in Ban Nong Yang Khai, Village No. 4, Tha Thung Luang Sub-district, Mae Tha District, Lamphun Province. It is a temple under the Maha Nikaya Sangha Sect, covering an area of 7 rai, 1 ngan, and 39 square wah, with title deed No. 123. The temple lies on the eastern boundary of the village.
The boundaries are as follows: To the north, it is adjacent to a public village road. To the east, it is adjacent to a public village road and a public canal. To the south, it is adjacent to another public village road.
The temple premises include an ordination hall (Ubosot), a vihara, a chedi (stupa), a sermon hall, a multipurpose pavilion, a kitchen, a pavilion for receiving alms, and a monument dedicated to revered monks and teachers. The temple was established in B.E. 2457 (1914) and was officially granted the boundary for ordination ceremonies on May 27, B.E. 2531 (1988), with dimensions of 40 meters wide and 80 meters long.
The temple is located 11 kilometers west of Mae Tha District, along Highway No. 3310. Initially, Phra Thao Kanthawongso, a monk aged 28 and originally from Wat Tha Doi Chae in Tha Kaset Sub-district, led a group of 30 households from Nong Yang Khai, Pha Khwang, and Thong Fai villages to establish the temple.
The temple has been under the leadership of several abbots. Phra Athikan Thao Kanthawongso served from B.E. 2457 to B.E. 2498. Phra Athikan Thao Aphiwangso succeeded him and served from B.E. 2500 to B.E. 2524. Phra Athikan Thanom Charuwanno served from B.E. 2527 to B.E. 2529. Phra Khru Thra Punnyakamo served from B.E. 2530 to B.E. 2541. Phra Khru Phisit Supphakarn has served as abbot since B.E. 2542 (1999) and continues to lead the temple as of B.E. 2556 (2013). Wat Tha Nong Yang Khai continues to serve as a spiritual and cultural center for the local community.
