Wat Tha Nong Yang Khrai is a local Buddhist temple under the Mahanikaya order, located in Ban Nong Yang Khrai, Moo 4, Tha Thung Luang Subdistrict, Mae Tha District, Lamphun Province. The temple covers 7 rai, 1 ngan and 39 square wah and has served as a spiritual center for Nong Yang Khrai, Pha Khwang and Thong Fai communities for more than a century.

 

The temple was established in 1914 by Phra Thao Khanthawanso, who originally came from Wat Tha Doi Chae in Tha Kat Subdistrict. At the age of 28 with 8 years in the monkhood, he led a group of about 30 household devotees to establish the temple. This founding story reflects strong cooperation between monks and villagers in building a Buddhist center for the local community.

 

The temple is located on the eastern side of the village. Its boundary connects with village public roads and a public irrigation canal, showing how the temple is part of the rural landscape, transportation network and water system of the community. Wat Tha Nong Yang Khrai is therefore not only a place of worship, but also a record of local settlement and community organization.

 

Important structures within the temple include the ubosot, viharn, relic chedi, sermon hall, multipurpose pavilion, kitchen, alms-bowl pavilion and monuments dedicated to respected teachers. These areas support Buddhist ceremonies, merit-making, community gatherings and religious remembrance. The relic chedi and monuments give the temple a strong spiritual identity.

 

Wat Tha Nong Yang Khrai received its royal consecrated boundary on May 27, 1988. The consecrated boundary measures 40 meters wide and 80 meters long. This recognition allows the temple to conduct formal monastic ceremonies within its ubosot area.

 

The known abbots include Phra Athikan Thao Khanthawanso, Phra Athikan Thao Abhiwanso, Phra Athikan Thanom Charuwanno, Phra Khru Son Punnakamo and Phra Khru Phisit Supphakan. Current published Buddhist records identify Phra Khru Phisit Supphakan as the abbot of Wat Tha Nong Yang Khrai. He is also recognized in local Buddhist administration as a senior monk in Mae Tha District.

 

Getting There is convenient by private car or rental vehicle. From Mae Tha District, travel west for about 11 km along Route 3310 toward Ban Nong Yang Khrai. The temple can be combined with nearby cultural sites such as Mae Tha Woodcarving Village, Wat Tha Thung Luang, Wat Tha Muen Khao, Wat Tha Doi Chae and Wat Tha Kat.
