Wat Mani Sathit Kapittharam is located on Sunthorn Sathit Road, near the Health Park and the Clock Tower roundabout in Uthai Thani Province. Locally known as “Thung Kaew Temple,” it is a historically significant temple dating back to the Rattanakosin period. Surrounded by open fields and shaded areas, the temple offers a serene environment ideal for religious activities and spiritual reflection.
A key highlight of Wat Mani Sathit Kapittharam is its large prang (tower), which stands prominently within the temple grounds. The prang has a base width of 8 meters and a height of 16 meters, featuring a distinctive five-tiered design constructed in 1909 (B.E. 2452). Beyond its architectural beauty, the prang enshrines sacred Buddha relics and houses a bronze statue of Luang Pho Yaem, the temple’s founder, who played a pivotal role in establishing and developing the temple as a spiritual and cultural center for the community.
The temple grounds also feature a large brick-built sacred water pond. At the center of this pond lies a stone inscribed with sacred yantras created by Luang Pho Yaem. Historically, water from this pond was used in royal coronation ceremonies during the reigns of King Rama VI and King Rama VII. This makes the pond not only an architectural feature but also a site of historical and spiritual significance.
Wat Mani Sathit Kapittharam serves as a spiritual and cultural hub for the people of Uthai Thani. Its shaded areas and open spaces provide an ideal environment for merit-making, meditation, and religious ceremonies. The temple is also an important site for studying Rattanakosin-era Thai architecture, particularly the unique five-tiered prang, offering visitors a peaceful glimpse into the past.
Beyond its architectural elegance and religious importance, the temple reflects the wisdom and beliefs of the Uthai Thani community. The construction of the sacred pond, with its embedded yantra, and its use in royal ceremonies illustrate the historical connection between the temple, local people, and the Thai monarchy. Wat Mani Sathit Kapittharam is not only a place of worship and spiritual practice but also a living testament to the province’s cultural and historical heritage.
With its rich history, architectural beauty, and spiritual significance, Wat Mani Sathit Kapittharam is a must-visit destination for those interested in Thai history, local culture, and traditional architecture. Visiting the temple offers both an opportunity for devotion and a chance to experience the deep-rooted traditions and beliefs preserved by the people of Uthai Thani for generations.
