Wat Thung Ngam Luang is located in Ban Thung Ngam, Village No. 3, Thung Ngam Subdistrict, Soem Ngam District, Lampang Province. It belongs to the Maha Nikaya sect. The temple occupies a land area of 6 rai and 75 square wah. The boundaries of the temple are approximately 43 meters to the north adjacent to a public road, 45 meters to the south adjacent to a public path, 119.70 meters to the east adjacent to private land, and 96 meters to the west adjacent to a public road. The temple's structures include an ordination hall (ubosot), monks' living quarters (kuti), a vihara, an alms hall (sala bat), and six Buddha images serving as principal sacred objects.
Wat Thung Ngam Luang was established in 1687 (B.E. 2230) and was granted the royal boundary for the ordination hall (wisungkhamsima) on November 4, 1966 (B.E. 2509), with a boundary measuring 12 meters in width and 18 meters in length.
Throughout its history, the temple has had 11 abbots, including Luang Pho Chai (Tuphu Jai), Khruba Wong, Phra Athikan Wan Konwaen, Phra Athikan Surin Khueankaew, Phra Athikan Sriyamiang, Phra Athikan Noi Kanjai, Phra Athikan Kamnoi Konwaen, Phra Athikan Suk Khueankaew, Phra Athikan Mun Yapiang, and Phra Khru Rattanalangka. The current abbot is Phra Khru Phibun Phatthananu-yut.
