Wat Mahanam Chai Phum, Chai Yo, Ang Thong. Mahanam Temple is a serene and peaceful temple, surrounded by trees that provide a tranquil atmosphere. The temple features a statue of the Goddess Guan Yin and is located in Moo 4, Chaiyaphum Subdistrict, Chaiyo District, Ang Thong Province. It sits on the eastern bank of the Chao Phraya River, near Wat Chaiyo Worawihan, another important religious and historical temple in the province. Originally known as "Wat Indraram," the temple was later renamed "Wat Mahanam," as it is now known.

One of the temple's most notable and well-known features is its large statue of Phra Sangkajai (Phra Kaccayana). This Buddha statue, representing abundance and prosperity, is widely revered in Buddhism. The large Phra Sangkajai statue at Wat Mahanam is especially remarkable for its size. Above the head of the statue, there is a stupa enshrining the Buddha’s relics and those of his disciples, which serves as an important site for devotees who come to pay homage and make merit.

It is believed that worshipping Phra Sangkajai helps bring good fortune, especially in business, prosperity, and happiness. Therefore, the large Phra Sangkajai statue at Wat Mahanam is not only a beautiful and sacred image but also a central figure of devotion for locals and Buddhist followers who come to make merit and seek blessings.

In addition to the large Phra Sangkajai statue, Wat Mahanam also houses “Luang Pho Khao,” an ancient Buddha image believed to be around 400 years old, dating back to the reign of King Naresuan the Great. This statue is considered highly sacred and holds great historical value. People come to Luang Pho Khao to pray for various blessings, such as success, happiness, or protection from harm.

A unique local tradition related to Luang Pho Khao is the practice of long drum performances to fulfill vows when prayers are answered. This reflects the deep respect and gratitude the devotees have for Luang Pho Khao and is a tradition that highlights the local culture and long-standing beliefs of the community.

Above the head of the large Phra Sangkajai statue, at the top of the stupa, is a relic chamber containing the Buddha’s relics and those of his disciples. These sacred relics provide spiritual comfort to worshippers. In Buddhism, it is believed that paying respects to these relics can bring blessings of happiness, prosperity, and protection from misfortune.

Wat Mahanam is a peaceful place that offers visitors a quiet and serene atmosphere, along with a warm local community. Visitors come not only to make merit and seek blessings but also to enjoy the calming environment that is part of the way of life in Ang Thong. The temple also serves as a key religious center for Buddhist activities in the area, acting as a gathering place for the community.
