Huai Kup Kab Village is a small village located on a high mountain peak in Mae Tang District, Chiang Mai Province. It is a hidden gem surrounded by lush nature and offers a simple way of life of the Lahu or Muser Red Hill tribe. The name "Huai Kup Kab" originates from the sound of horse hooves of villagers who once used horses to travel to the village, as the path leading to the village was difficult and rugged. The "kup kab" sound from the horses' footsteps became the name for the village. Today, the village still preserves its natural beauty and the simple lifestyle of the Lahu people.

 

Huai Kup Kab is home to the Lahu or Muser Red Hill tribe, who lead a simple life primarily focused on rice farming and vegetable cultivation. Most of the villagers still practice traditional agriculture, which not only provides a source of income but also helps preserve local culture and traditions.

How to get to Huai Kup Kab Village Getting to Huai Kup Kab can be challenging due to the dirt roads and steep terrain leading to the village, but the scenic views along the way will make you forget about the difficulties.

 

From Chiang Mai city, take Route 107 towards Mae Tang District, approximately 50 kilometers away.

From Mae Tang, head towards the village of Gid Chang to reach Huai Kup Kab. After this, the road becomes a dirt road and is steep, so it’s recommended to use a vehicle suitable for such terrain for safety.

 

Horseback travel: For a more traditional experience, visitors can choose to travel by horse, just like the villagers did in the past.
