Khao Sakern Waterfall, located in Moo 1, Ban Sakern, Yod Subdistrict, Song Khwae District, Nan Province, is a hidden gem nestled in the lush highland rainforest of northern Nan. This serene and naturally beautiful waterfall is ideal for those seeking to escape the chaos of the city and immerse themselves in the purity of the wilderness. It is a single-tier waterfall, approximately 15 to 20 meters high, where the stream gently cascades over a rocky cliff into a clear, cool pool below. The water is refreshingly cold and safe for swimming. Surrounding the waterfall is a rich landscape of verdant forest, featuring both deciduous and dipterocarp woodlands that support diverse biodiversity, offering a shaded and cool atmosphere throughout the year.

Reaching Khao Sakern Waterfall is not easy, so visitors should come well-prepared with appropriate clothing, trekking shoes, and essential gear for hiking. The final approach to the waterfall involves a dirt road and a footpath through dense forest, which requires caution especially during the rainy season when the ground becomes slippery. Four-wheel-drive vehicles or pickups are recommended for the journey, and those unfamiliar with the area should consider traveling with a local guide for safety.

The best time to visit is from late rainy season to early winter, between September and December. During this period, water levels are still high from the monsoon rains, and the weather becomes pleasantly cool with clear skies—perfect for hiking and nature photography. Visitors may bring packed meals for a picnic by the water, but should be mindful of cleanliness and carry all waste back out to preserve the environment. Sitting by the waterfall, listening to its gentle roar amidst the tranquil forest, offers a deeply refreshing and restorative experience.

Though not widely known, Khao Sakern Waterfall’s charm lies in its untouched nature and peaceful ambiance. It is an ideal destination for those yearning for simplicity, a place to soothe the soul, follow the rhythm of the wind and water, and connect with the forest-bound way of life of the small local community of Ban Sakern.
