Chanthaburi City Pillar Shrine is located on Tha Luang Road, Chanthaburi Province, directly opposite the King Taksin the Great Shrine. Although there is no clear historical record of its construction date, it is believed that King Taksin the Great established it when he entered Chanthaburi in 1767 to use the city as a base for gathering troops and supplies before reclaiming Ayutthaya.

The original shrine was likely built from laterite, traces of which can still be seen today, though it has deteriorated over time, making it difficult to determine its original shape. The current city pillar and shrine were constructed in 1981, with subsequent restorations and landscape improvements to enhance the surrounding area.

Inside the shrine stands the city pillar, considered the spiritual heart of Chanthaburi. It symbolizes stability and prosperity, and locals and visitors often pay respects for good fortune. This practice reflects the enduring connection between local history and community faith.

With renovations and landscaping around the shrine, the area now provides a serene environment suitable for religious and cultural activities. Gardens and walkways make the shrine accessible and welcoming for visitors, offering both spiritual and educational experiences.

Beyond its religious and cultural significance, the shrine serves as a historical learning site, narrating King Taksin the Great’s role in reclaiming Ayutthaya and Chanthaburi’s strategic importance. Visiting the shrine offers insight into local history while providing a space for reflection and reverence.

Chanthaburi City Pillar Shrine stands as a vital symbol of local heritage, uniting the community, preserving historical knowledge, and offering tourists and residents alike a place to experience tranquility, faith, and cultural identity.
