Thep Ratcha Chalermphrakiat Caladium Center (Caladium Village) is an agricultural tourism destination that clearly reflects the identity of the local community in Paet Riu (Chachoengsao). It is located in Thep Ratcha Subdistrict, Ban Pho District, Chachoengsao Province, approximately 10 kilometers from Chachoengsao city center and about 3 kilometers past Khlong Suan Market along the route toward Chachoengsao town. This place is not only a marketplace for caladium plants but also a center of knowledge, local wisdom, and a strong network of community growers who specialize in cultivating various caladium varieties.

 

Caladium, known in Thai as “Bon Si,” is an ornamental plant with a long history in Thai society. It has been popular since ancient times due to its vibrant colors, intricate leaf patterns, and cultural beliefs associated with good fortune. The residents of Thep Ratcha Subdistrict have continuously cultivated caladium for generations. Eventually, they united to establish the Thep Ratcha Chalermphrakiat Caladium Center in order to systematize production, development, and distribution, while promoting the area as an agricultural tourism destination that generates income for the community.

 

The establishment of this center began with the collaboration of local farmers who were highly skilled in breeding and cultivating diverse caladium varieties. Initially, they grew plants mainly for local markets. As the popularity of caladium increased nationwide, the community further developed their expertise in hybridization, selective breeding, and greenhouse management. Guided by the principles of community-based economy and self-reliance, the area was gradually transformed into a comprehensive caladium center with display zones, cultivation areas, and retail sections.

 

The center is clearly divided into two main sections. The first section features a display area showcasing a wide range of caladium varieties, including round-leaf, long-leaf, variegated, patterned, and rare high-value types. Visitors can closely observe the diversity in leaf shapes, textures, and colors. Each plant is neatly arranged within controlled greenhouse environments where light and humidity are carefully managed, ensuring vibrant coloration and distinct patterns.

 

The second section consists of cultivation and retail greenhouses. Here, visitors can learn about the entire process of caladium production, from preparing bulbs and pollination to nurturing seedlings and selecting high-quality plants for sale. Demonstration points provide detailed explanations by experienced growers, allowing tourists not only to admire the beauty of the plants but also to understand proper cultivation techniques.

 

Growing caladium requires specific knowledge, including moisture control, appropriate soil composition, and balanced sunlight exposure. Getting There From Chachoengsao city center, take the Chachoengsao – Khlong Suan Road toward Khlong Suan Market. Continue driving for approximately 3 kilometers beyond the market, and you will find signs leading to the Thep Ratcha Chalermphrakiat Caladium Center. The total distance from the city center is about 10 kilometers, taking approximately 15 – 20 minutes by car. Private transportation is recommended.
