Rajamangala Universiy of Technology Isan (RMUTI) is the government higher education institution which established in accordance with the Rajamangala University of Technology Act 2004, commencing on 18 January 2005. RMUTI comprises of five campuses located in five provinces in the Northeastern Region of Thailand – Nakhorn Ratchasima (main office), Khon Kean, Surin, Kalasin and Sakon Nakhon.

Rajamangala University of Technology Isan (RMUTI), Surin Campus, a 150-year journey to become one of the recognition and largest universities in Surin province, is located in about 1,500 rai (about 593.12 acres) at the 2-3 kilometers east of Muang District, Surin Province, Thailand on Surin-Prasat Road.

It was originated from the Agricultural Primary School, named “Srisurinkasikum School” in 1863 which provided both fundamental and vocational education and the first enrollment began in 1866. About ten years later, the vocational learning was separated to be conducted at different location outside the city and the name of school was changed to “Surin Agricultural School”and transferred to be governed under the Vocational Education Department, Ministry of Education in 1874.

There were only 4 teachers, 2 workers and 30 students, and Mr. Thammanoon Simgkaselit was assigned to be the first school principal. The school was upgraded to be “Surin Agricultural College” in 1965.

In 1975, Surin Agricultural College and different vocational colleges in various regions of Thailand were combined to be a government higher education institution under the Ministry of Education and named “Institute of Technology and Vocational Education, Surin Agricultural Campus”.

In 1988, the institute was given the name “Rajamangala Institute of Technology (RIT)”granted by his Majesty the king, its uniqueness of being a multidisciplinary institute with 40 campuses and 16 faculties, including 29 research and academic service units scattered around the country. It’s name was changed to “Rajamangala Institute of Technology, Surin Campus”.

In accordance with the Rajamangala University of Technology Act 2004, commencing on January 18, 2005. RIT was separated into 9 universities as follows,

Rajamangala Universiy of Technology Thanya Buri, Rajamangala Universiy of Technology Bangkok, Rajamangala Universiy of Technology Easten, Rajamangala Universiy of Technology Pranakon, Rajamangala Universiy of Technology Rattanakosindra, Rajamangala Universiy of Technology Lanna, Rajamangala Universiy of Technology Srivichai, Rajamangala Universiy of Technology Suwanaphumi, Rajamangala Universiy of Technology Isan

The name of the campus was then changed to “Rajamangala University of Technology, Surin Campus”. There are 3 administration units in the Surin Campus; Office of Surin Campus Faculty of Agriculture and Technology Faculty of Management Technology.
