Wat Photharam Attractions in Mae Hong Son Khun Yuam, Khun Yuam, Mae Hong Son. Wat Photaram is situated on a land area of 7 rai, 2 ngan, and 50 square wah. The temple's boundaries, as stated in the land title deed, are as follows: to the north and south, it borders a stream; to the east, it borders Highway 108; and to the west, it borders a public road.
Originally, the site was used as a pavilion for welcoming northern lords and nobles passing through during the era of local governance. Later, in 1931 (BE 2474), the location was repurposed to establish a temple. It was officially granted the Wisungkhama Sima (land for religious use) on June 23, 1977 (BE 2520).
The temple's construction was led by Mr. Kamchan Jaiyaw, Mr. Chantima Chaibut, Mr. Chom Srikaew, Mr. Khiao Phunphol, Mr. Wong Nakkhata, Mr. Ueng Sopa, Mr. Fa Sukjai, Mr. Sukjai Moonkaew, and Mr. Duangkaew Chainha, with the collective support of local residents. Initially, the temple was known by various names, including Wat Benjasin, Wat Phai Muang, and Wat Tai.
The name was later changed to Wat Photaram, inspired by the presence of a sacred Bodhi tree brought from India, a tree that holds deep significance in Buddhism due to its connection to the Buddha's enlightenment. Locals commonly refer to it as "Wat Pho."
