Wat Muang Ton Lao Yao, Ban Hong, Lamphun. Wat Muang Ton belongs to the Maha Nikaya sect of Theravada Buddhism. The temple is located on a plot of 3 rai and 67 square wah, with an additional ecclesiastical land of 2 rai, 1 ngan, and 90 square wah.
The temple's structures include a ubosot (ordination hall), a vihara (sanctuary) with mural paintings, a preaching hall, monastic living quarters (kuti), and a library pavilion (ho trai). The principal Buddha image in the vihara is a brick and plaster statue.
Wat Muang Ton was established in 1826 (BE 2369). The name of the temple derives from a large mango tree that once stood by the Li River within the village. When the villagers built the temple, they named it Wat Muang Ton in honor of the tree.
The temple was officially granted the boundary for religious ceremonies (Wisungkhamsima) on March 26, 1970 (BE 2513). The first abbot was Phra Athikarn Tun Yanaviro. The current abbot is Phra Khru Worapunnyophat.
