Wat San Chedi Ban Hong, Ban Hong, Lamphun. Wat San Chedi, under the Maha Nikaya Buddhist sect, is located on a plot of land measuring 3 rai, 1 ngan, and 27 square wah.

The temple was established in 1882 (B.E. 2425). According to its history, the site featured an old pagoda without a spire, overgrown with vines. A wandering monk discovered the site and decided to stay, encouraging nearby residents to help restore the pagoda.

In 1887 (B.E. 2430), Phra La Thanawaro founded the temple and named it Wat San Chedi. It was granted the royal boundary (wisungkhamsima) on June 23, 1971 (B.E. 2514). Phra La Thanawaro served as the first abbot, and today, the temple is under the leadership of Phra Khru Sumontham Nivit.

The temple complex includes a vihara, ordination hall, pagoda, monks’ quarters, and a Thai-style pavilion.

Wat San Chedi also serves as a Sunday Buddhist school and plays a significant role in preserving Lanna culture. The temple is known for its large ceremonial drum, which is used in various traditional festivals and competitions throughout Northern Thailand.
