Wat Doi Kom Ban Hong, Ban Hong, Lamphun. Wat Doi Kom, affiliated with the Maha Nikaya Buddhist sect, occupies an area of 6 rai, 1 ngan, and 86 square wah. It is located on a small, rounded hill near the Li River, which gave rise to the name "Doi Kom."
The temple was established in 1927 by Kruba Srivichai, the revered saint of Lanna, who recognized the site’s potential to become a prominent religious center for the Buddhist community in Ban Hong District. Historical accounts suggest that this site may have once been an abandoned temple, linked to the legend of Wiang Wai in Ban Hong District.
The site, also referred to as Doi Oop, was a place where Phaya Chan, the ruler of Wiang Wai, came to meditate and practice Dharma. This occurred after he suspected his queen, Nang Kaew, of being unfaithful and forming a liaison with Phaya Kok and Phaya Yee in Wiang Nong Long.
Wat Doi Kom received its official boundary (wisungkhamsima) on December 23, 1968. The first abbot was Phra Maha Suphan Thiradhammo, and the current abbot is Phra Khru Banphot Phattanayut.
The temple is located on a low hill adjacent to the Lamphun-Li road. Its structures include a vihara, ubosot, sermon hall, monk residences, and a stupa. Near the entrance stands a monument to Kruba Srivichai, erected by the locals to honor the monk who established Wat Doi Kom.
