Wat Pa Tan (Ban Thi) is located at 139 Moo 19, Pa Tan-Hong Hae Road, Ban Thi Subdistrict, Ban Thi District, Lamphun Province, Postal Code 51180. It is a public temple of the Mahanikaya sect, covering an area of 3 rai, 2 ngan, and 43 square wah. The temple was officially established in 1941 (B.E. 2484) and received the Royal Decree of Land Boundary (Wisung Khama Sima) in 1986 (B.E. 2529). The current abbot is Phra Kru Inthapanyawut (Inthapanyo).
Originally, Wat Pa Tan was an abandoned temple with numerous sugar palm trees growing on its grounds. According to historical records, the temple was initially built in 1832 (B.E. 2375) but was left desolate for about 120 years, leaving only remnants of its brick structures.
Later, villagers who moved to settle in the Pa Tan area came together to restore the temple. They invited monks to reside at the site and began constructing new temple buildings step by step until the present day.
Since Wat Pa Tan was built before 1941 (B.E. 2484), it was exempted from requiring permission for its establishment and was duly registered as a legitimate temple under the Sangha Act.
