Wat Suan Hong Bang Pla Ma, Bang Pla Ma, Suphan Buri. Wat Suan Hong is uniquely embraced by the Tha Chin River on three sides. This temple was established around 1836 (B.E. 2379) and was officially consecrated in 1865 (B.E. 2408). It is said that a wealthy couple from Khok Kram, Nai Suan and Nang Hong, devoted their faith to founding this temple, naming it “Wat Suan Hong” in their honor.
During the time when Luang Pho Pluem took on the role of abbot, Wat Suan Hong was a modest temple with deteriorated structures. Under his guidance, the temple was gradually restored to a state of prosperity. A native of Bang Pla Ma District, Luang Pho Pluem was born in Ban Yot, Kao Hong Subdistrict. Renowned for his wisdom and spiritual leadership, he gained immense respect from the local community.
As a revered teacher, Luang Pho Pluem dedicated much of his life to educating monks and novices in Buddhist teachings. He also practiced Vipassana meditation with strict discipline, often walking in meditation and maintaining a focused mind at all times. To this day, his body remains preserved and displayed in a glass coffin within the temple's main building. Remarkably, his body has not decomposed but has only naturally dried over time. Devotees continue to visit to pay their respects and acquire sacred amulets in his memory, demonstrating unwavering faith.
A significant cultural event associated with Wat Suan Hong is the annual Royal Trophy Longboat Race. The race gathers longboats that have won competitions nationwide to compete for the prestigious trophy bestowed by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. Held during the third week of November each year on the Tha Chin River in front of the temple, this event draws participants and spectators from across the country.
Wat Suan Hong stands as a beacon of faith, history, and cultural heritage, deeply intertwined with the traditions and spiritual life of the people of Bang Pla Ma.
