Wat Sang Sok located in Khlong Dan Subdistrict, Bang Bo District, Samut Prakan Province, is a temple deeply rooted in the community’s history. As a center of religious and cultural activities, it plays a vital role in the lives of the local residents.

Historical Background Wat Sang Sok was founded around 1757 (B.E. 2300). Its exact founder remains unknown. Initially, the temple was known as "Wat Pak Ao" (Temple of the River Mouth). Locals, however, commonly referred to it as "Wat Mon," as it was situated near Khlong Mon and surrounded by a significant Mon community.

Over time, the temple was also called “Wat Attawararam,” reflecting its eight monks' quarters, and “Wat Asawaram,” due to its historical connection as a cavalry base for King Taksin the Great.

In 1939 (B.E. 2482), under the guidance of Prince Pawaret Wariyalongkorn, the temple was renamed "Wat Sang Sok" to honor Princess Soke Sawang, the daughter of King Pinklao.

Over the centuries, Wat Sang Sok has undergone numerous renovations to preserve its beauty and significance: 1837 (B.E. 2360): Major restoration of the temple. 1994 (B.E. 2537): Relocation of the temple to higher ground across the road due to persistent flooding. 2002 (B.E. 2545): Construction of the King Taksin the Great Monument to symbolize bravery and faith.

Wat Sang Sok has significantly contributed to local education. It established a Buddhist school for monks and novices and generously provided land for the government to build a primary school. These efforts highlight the temple’s enduring role as a community cornerstone.

Today, Wat Sang Sok continues to serve as a religious and cultural hub for the Khlong Dan community. Its distinctive architecture and storied past make it a place of pride and devotion. Regular religious ceremonies and cultural activities ensure the temple remains a vital part of local life.

Wat Sang Sok is more than just a temple; it is a historical and cultural emblem of the Khlong Dan community. It stands as a testament to the unwavering faith and deep connection between the people and Buddhism, preserving its legacy for future generations.
