Wat Sam Kha is an ancient temple located in Ban Sam Kha, Village No. 6, Hua Suea Subdistrict, Mae Tha District, Lampang Province. This temple is not only an important religious site for the local community, but it also holds profound historical and cultural value. It was once the residence during the Buddhist Lent of “Chao Pho Thip Pala,” a revered local hero who played a vital role in defending Lampang from an invasion by the Tai Yai (Shan people) in the past.

According to local legend, Chao Pho Thip Pala was a brave and intelligent warrior who led a successful campaign to repel the Tai Yai forces. His courage and virtuous deeds earned him deep respect and reverence from the people. Today, he is remembered as a significant figure in the local history of Mae Tha District.

The temple grounds still retain a sacred ambiance and a peaceful atmosphere. The ubosot (ordination hall) is modest in design, reflecting traditional local architecture, and is surrounded by natural scenery that is ideal for meditation and merit-making. Wat Sam Kha continues to serve as a spiritual center for the local villagers, who remain devoted to Buddhist teachings as a way of life.

Wat Sam Kha is not only a place of religious devotion, but also a living monument to the bravery of a man who once protected his homeland in times of crisis. It is a destination well worth visiting, especially for those interested in exploring the rich local history of Lampang.
