Wat San Doi Noi is an old temple rich in historical and cultural value, located in Ban Na Kwao Kio, Village No. 4, Ban Kio Subdistrict, Mae Tha District, Lampang Province. It was established around 1935 and has long served as a spiritual center for the local community.
The name "San Doi Noi" reflects the temple’s location on a small hill, surrounded by nature and lush forests. This peaceful and serene setting makes it ideal for meditation and spiritual reflection. More than just a place for religious ceremonies, the temple is also a living repository of local wisdom and Lanna cultural heritage.
Within the temple grounds, one will find a modest ordination hall (ubosot) that exemplifies Northern Thai vernacular architecture. There is also a stupa (chedi) and a sermon hall (sala kanprian), both of which have been built and restored over time through the faith and unity of the local people.
Although Wat San Doi Noi may not be widely known on a national scale like many prominent temples, its value lies in being a “village temple” deeply intertwined with local history, culture, and the spiritual life of the community. It stands as a spiritual anchor, connecting the past, present, and future of the people of Ban Kio.
Visiting Wat San Doi Noi offers more than just a glimpse of natural beauty and traditional architecture — it also provides an opportunity to learn about the lifestyle of a small community that continues to preserve its traditional customs and values. It is a cultural destination well worth exploring in Lampang Province.
