Wat Pachantakharamwasi (Nong Haen)

Wat Pachantakharamwasi, commonly known as Wat Nong Nae, is located in Moo 8, Nakhon Det Subdistrict, Si Nakhon District, Sukhothai Province. The temple has a long-standing history and holds great religious significance for the local community. Its construction began in 1907 B.E. (1864 CE) by Pu Kham, who had no family name, marking the initial effort to establish a place for Buddhist practice and a spiritual center for local residents.

 

In 1925 B.E. (1882 CE), Luang Pho Sorn came to reside at Wat Pachantakharamwasi and collaborated with the villagers to gradually develop the temple. One of the key patrons was Pho Boon and Mae Tat Ju Wanit, timber merchants from Ban Kaeng, Tron District, Uttaradit Province. Their strong connections with the community, including notable locals such as Pho Nil, Pho Ma, and Pho Mee, allowed them to effectively support the temple. In 1926 B.E., they brought the sacred Buddha image, Luang Pho Si Chan, to the temple. Today, this image serves as the principal Buddha in the ubosot (ordination hall) and is deeply revered by residents of Nong Nae and nearby villages.

 

The temple’s development continued under Pho Klin Soisuwan, the adopted son of Pho Boon and Mae Tat, who followed in his parents’ footsteps by supporting the temple. He was later appointed as the temple trustee. Pho Klin led the construction of the ubosot, completing the work started by his parents, and the temple received royal recognition with the Wisungkhamasima (ceremonial boundary) in 1955 B.E. under the leadership of Phra Athikarn Paen as abbot. Over time, additional structures were built, including three monks’ living quarters and a sermon hall, providing proper facilities for religious activities.

 

Wat Pachantakharamwasi serves as a religious center for residents of Moo 1, 5, 7, and 8, Nakhon Det Subdistrict, Si Nakhon District, Sukhothai Province. It is a place for Buddhist ceremonies, merit-making, meditation, and other religious practices. The temple continues to be a spiritual and cultural hub where both older and younger generations come to learn and preserve local Buddhist traditions.

 

Thanks to the ongoing devotion of the local community and support from temple patrons, Wat Pachantakharamwasi has thrived continuously. Beyond being a place of worship, it symbolizes cooperation, faith, and cultural heritage, reflecting generations of dedication to preserve and develop this sacred site.
