Wat Dong Takhop, located in Dong Takhop Subdistrict, Taphan Hin District, Phichit Province, is an ancient temple with a long history and serves as the spiritual center of the local community. The temple was founded around 1697 (B.E. 2240) under the Mahanikaya sect of Buddhism. Around 1845 (B.E. 2388), the ordination hall and vihara were constructed, and later, on August 26, 1957 (B.E. 2500), the temple was officially granted the Wisungkhamsima boundary, signifying its importance and recognition as a religious center.

The temple possesses two plots of monastic land. The first covers more than seven rai, bordered by a local road and Bang Phai Canal, while the second comprises over four rai. These lands reflect not only the temple’s role as a religious site but also its deep connection with the surrounding community.

One of the most revered and sacred images of the temple is “Luang Pho Nam Khueang,” a Buddha image that has been highly respected by the people of Dong Takhop for centuries. Villagers believe in its spiritual power and sacredness, seeing it as a guardian that brings peace, prosperity, and protection to their lives. For the locals, Luang Pho Nam Khueang is inseparably tied to their identity and faith, becoming a symbol of spiritual strength passed down through generations.

In addition to Luang Pho Nam Khueang, Wat Dong Takhop also houses significant historical monuments. Among them is an ancient prang, originally constructed by a woman known as Yai Lamphu, who hired Chinese craftsmen for the work. Later, in 1824 (B.E. 2367), two additional stupas, each about two meters wide, were built. Today, both the prang and stupas are registered as historical monuments, showcasing the temple’s cultural heritage and architectural legacy that continue to be cherished and preserved.

Traveling to Wat Dong Takhop is convenient. From Taphan Hin District, head towards Thap Khlo District for about 2 kilometers, then turn right and continue for another 8 kilometers until reaching a three-way junction. From there, turn right again, and the temple will be on the left-hand side. This accessible route makes it easy for visitors and devotees to come and pay respects to Luang Pho Nam Khueang.

Wat Dong Takhop, therefore, is not only a sacred place for Buddhist ceremonies but also a significant cultural landmark of Phichit Province. With its sacred Buddha image, registered historical monuments, and long-standing community importance, the temple stands as a testament to the region’s spiritual and cultural heritage. It is a destination that offers both religious reverence and valuable insight into the history, art, and traditions of Phichit.
