Wat Chinwararam Worawihan is a second-class royal temple located in Bang Khayang Subdistrict, Mueang Pathum Thani District, Pathum Thani Province, on the western bank of the Chao Phraya River. It is one of the province’s most important temples, known for its historical background, mural art, sacred Buddha image, and riverside setting that still feels peaceful and deeply connected to local religious life.

 

The temple was originally called Wat Makham Tai and was founded around 1815 in the early Rattanakosin period. It was later restored under the patronage of Somdet Phra Maha Samanachao Krom Phraya Chinavoravisutthithewarayong, then known as Prince Krom Luang Chinworn Siriwat, during the reign of King Prajadhipok. This restoration gave the temple greater importance and helped establish it as a royal temple in Pathum Thani.

 

One of the main highlights of Wat Chinwararam Worawihan is its ordination hall, which contains mural paintings of the Ten Great Birth Stories or Tosachat Chadok, accompanied by poetic captions in Thai verse. Inside the hall is Phra Phuttha Chinwon, also known as Luang Pho Thongkham, a Sukhothai-period Buddha image brought from Ayutthaya. This gives the temple both artistic and spiritual significance, making it especially appealing to visitors interested in Buddhist art and heritage.

 

The temple compound includes several other important structures. The viharn dedicated to Somdet Phra Maha Samanachao was built in 1917. The Chinworn Siriwat Residence was built in 1932. The riverside Guan Yin Pavilion was built in 1913. There are also a sermon hall, bell tower, riverside pavilion, and a newer mondop adapted from an older structure, which houses a replica Buddha footprint and dates to 1929. These buildings give the temple a layered architectural identity and make a walk through the grounds especially rewarding.

 

Because the temple stands by the Chao Phraya River, the atmosphere is open, breezy, and calm. Although it is not far from Bangkok, the setting feels much quieter than the capital and is well suited for merit-making, temple visits, and slow cultural travel. Visitors who enjoy old temples with riverside character will find this site especially memorable.

 

The temple is also closely associated with Phra Mongkhonwaropakan (Chamnan Uttamapanyo), widely known as Luang Pho Chamnan, who currently serves as the abbot. He is a respected monk in Pathum Thani and an important reason why the temple continues to attract devotees from both the local area and beyond.

 

Wat Chinwararam Worawihan works well as part of a larger temple and heritage route in Pathum Thani. A visit here can easily be combined with nearby attractions such as Wat Hong Pathumawas, the Pathum Thani City Pillar Shrine, the municipal market area, and other riverside sites in the provincial center.
