Wat Noi Charoen Suk is located in Tha Phaya Subdistrict, Nakhon Chai Si District, Nakhon Pathom Province. It is a Buddhist temple under the Mahā Nikāya sect. This temple has a fascinating history and is well-known for its association with legends and historical significance. The temple was founded in 1799, with evidence of its establishment inscribed on silver and gold plates, as well as within an old stupa.
The founding of Wat Noi Charoensuk is intertwined with a famous local legend. According to the story, the first wife and the second wife, both of whom were devout, competed to build a temple. The first wife built Wat Luang Phrapachaburana, while the second wife, not to be outdone, built Wat Noi Charoensuk. The name of the temple was later modified to include the word "Charoensuk" to bring about more auspiciousness.
Wat Noi Charoensuk has several notable architectural features, especially its old ubosot (ordination hall). The ubosot is a five-room structure with a veranda and pali at the front. There are two doors on the front side. The roof is double-tiered and covered with glazed tiles. The front gable is adorned with a stucco design of flora patterns, while the sides of the ubosot feature red sandstone markers in cement arches. These details reflect the rich artistry and craftsmanship of the time.
The old ubosot has undergone restoration, and a new ubosot has been constructed in front of the old one to accommodate religious ceremonies and provide more space for worshippers.
In 1970, Wat Noi Charoensuk received the "visungkhamsima" (temple boundary certification) from the royal court, formally recognizing its status as a temple and allowing it to conduct religious activities legally. The temple has been cared for and developed to promote spiritual practices and serve as a place for the community's religious needs.
Wat Noi Charoensuk plays a crucial role in the local community by spreading Buddhist teachings and being a site where people come to engage in religious practices. The temple's historical and artistic value makes it an important educational resource for both locals and visitors alike, offering insights into Thai architecture, history, and the Buddhist way of life.
Wat Noi Charoensuk is a temple with a long and significant history, not only for its religious role but also for its contribution to the cultural and historical landscape of Tha Phaya. This temple serves as a place of worship, reflection, and learning, making it a valuable landmark for those interested in understanding the rich heritage of Thai Buddhism and architecture.
