Later, on 20 November 1973, the people of Pa O Don Chai worked together to develop the area into a larger water resource for agriculture, fishery, and community use. The name was then changed to “Nong Khue Wiang” after evidence of an old “wiang,” or ancient settlement area, was found on the higher land nearby. This gives the site a character that combines environmental importance with a local historical identity.

 

Today, Nong Khue Wiang is appreciated both as a local water source and as a recreational attraction. Its still atmosphere, open water, and surrounding hills create a relaxing landscape, especially in the early morning and late afternoon. Visitors using public transport can first enter Chiang Rai city and then continue by local vehicle or ride-hailing service into the subdistrict.
