Tham Phet Sai Thong, also known as Tham Anodat, is one of the most mysterious and beautiful natural sites in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province. Inside the cave are numerous stalactites and stalagmites that have formed naturally over thousands of years. When light is shone onto the cave walls and ceiling, they sparkle like precious gems, which is why local people call it “Diamond Cave.” The name perfectly reflects the hidden beauty preserved within the mountain.

Tham Phet Sai Thong is located in Sai Thong Subdistrict, Bang Saphan Noi District, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, an area that still retains abundant natural richness and features many limestone mountains. The cave was formed through geological processes that took tens of thousands of years. Rainwater seeping through limestone layers dissolved minerals, which gradually accumulated and became unusual stalactites and stalagmites. When light reflects off them, they shine beautifully like gemstones.

Although Tham Phet Sai Thong is exceptionally beautiful, it is currently not open as a general tourist attraction because the route is quite difficult and entering the cave requires cave exploration knowledge. Visitors must also be accompanied by an experienced guide for safety reasons and to help protect the fragile ecosystem inside the cave.

The name Tham Phet Sai Thong comes from two important parts. The first is “Tham Phet” or “Diamond Cave,” derived from the sparkling effect of the stalactites and stalagmites when illuminated. The second is “Sai Thong,” which comes from the name of Sai Thong Subdistrict where the cave is located. Together, these form the name “Tham Phet Sai Thong,” which has been used ever since.

The cave is also known as “Tham Anodat,” a name inspired by Buddhist mythology. “Anodat” refers to the sacred Anodat Lake in the Himmapan forest according to ancient belief. This name reflects the cave’s beauty and the sense of mystery hidden within nature.

Traveling to Tham Phet Sai Thong is considered an adventure that requires patience and caution. The journey begins from Phetkasem Road near the Huai Sak intersection, where visitors must turn onto a dirt road leading toward the mountain area for about 1.6 kilometers. After that, they will reach the bamboo mountain range and a small hill locally known as “Khao Noi,” which is the point where vehicles can no longer continue.

Getting There From this point, explorers must park their vehicle and walk about 200 meters through rubber plantations and scrub forest to reach the cave entrance. The entrance is a large shaft that requires visitors to rappel down with ropes because the access point is steep and descends about 70 meters. Anyone without cave exploration experience should not attempt to enter alone.

Once inside, visitors will find a large chamber filled with countless stalactites and stalagmites. These formations appear in many shapes, with some resembling stone curtains hanging from the cave ceiling, while others form columns connecting the floor to the ceiling, creating a remarkably beautiful natural scene.

What makes Tham Phet Sai Thong stand out from many other caves in Thailand is the sparkling effect that appears when a flashlight is directed at the stalactites and stalagmites. Minerals within the rock reflect light especially well, producing a glittering effect as if one were standing among countless diamonds. This sight leaves a strong impression on those fortunate enough to witness it.

Beyond the main chamber, the cave contains several other passages and openings. Some of them are winding and so narrow that visitors must crawl through certain sections. Exploring these inner areas requires great caution because the cave is completely dark and parts of the ground can be slippery.

The environment around the cave remains naturally well preserved. The scrub forest and rubber plantations surrounding the area create a peaceful and authentic atmosphere. The limestone mountains in this area also provide habitat for various kinds of wildlife, including bats that live inside the cave.

Even though Tham Phet Sai Thong is not yet open as a regular tourist site, it has strong potential for adventure tourism and nature education. If properly managed in the future, it could become an important destination in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province.

However, conservation remains the most important priority. Stalactites and stalagmites take thousands of years to form. Even slight touching or damage can harm natural structures that took ages to develop. For this reason, entry into the cave should only take place under the supervision of experts and experienced local guides.

Tham Phet Sai Thong is therefore an example of a natural site that still retains its pure beauty and deep mystery. Although it is not officially open as a tourist attraction, the cave’s beauty continues to attract the interest of nature explorers and adventure lovers.
