Wat Khao Lanthom, Attractions Prachuap located at 62 Ban Don Klang, Phetkasem Road, Moo 4, Sam Kratai Subdistrict, Kui Buri District, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, is a public temple affiliated with the Mahanikaya monastic sect. Covering an area of 17 rai, 3 ngan, and 50 square wah (about 7 acres), the land for this temple was generously donated by Mr. Thup Chueachat, who recognized the importance of establishing a religious sanctuary for the community. The temple was officially consecrated as a monastic boundary (Visung Kham See Ma) on February 25, 2014, underscoring its value as a prominent religious site in Thai society.
Architecture and Structures within Wat Khao Lanthom Wat Khao Lanthom features several significant structures essential for religious and community activities. The main sermon hall, a large wooden building measuring 25.50 meters in width and 38.50 meters in length, serves as the primary venue for ceremonies, meditation, and gatherings. A multi-purpose wooden pavilion, measuring 11 meters wide and 24.50 meters long, provides additional space for various events, including merit-making ceremonies and community meetings.
The merit-making hall, also constructed of wood, offers a tranquil and welcoming space for worshippers, while the bell tower adds a traditional touch, used to announce prayer times. Other facilities include ten monk residences, two kitchen buildings, and a public hall at the temple’s entrance, catering to the daily needs of both monks and visitors.
The temple is currently led by Phra Khru Thawon Thammasan, who serves as the abbot and diligently oversees the temple’s religious and community activities. Under his leadership, the temple organizes various programs to promote moral values and foster a sense of unity among local residents. Phra Khru Thawon Thammasan has initiated spiritual learning programs, particularly for youth, focusing on Buddhist teachings and the importance of ethical living.
Beyond being a place of worship, Wat Khao Lanthom serves as a gathering place where locals participate in merit-making on significant Buddhist occasions, such as Visakha Bucha Day and Magha Bucha Day. The temple plays an essential role in fostering community bonds by providing a shared space for both religious and social events.
In addition, Wat Khao Lanthom is a center for cultural preservation, hosting activities such as Maha Chat sermons, meditation retreats, and youth training programs, which help preserve the temple’s role in nurturing moral values and local heritage.
Wat Khao Lanthom is more than a place of worship; it is a central hub for community, spirituality, and culture. Representing unity, faith in Buddhist teachings, and care for community well-being, the temple stands as a lasting legacy, drawing people together across generations.
