Located at Ban Khao Khok Phen in Tham Nop Subdistrict, the temple is associated with Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana, Princess of Naradhiwas. Its most remarkable feature is the temple layout, designed in the form of a royal ship on a hilltop, named “Ratchayan Nava Dighayu Mongkol.” The name reflects a Buddhist concept of a vessel that helps people cross beyond the ocean of defilements.

 

The temple offers a peaceful forest-temple atmosphere combined with symbolic Buddhist architecture. Inside, visitors can pay respect to a pair of Buddha footprints and an U Thong-style seated Buddha image, which serves as the principal Buddha image of the temple.

 

The temple also includes a pavilion dedicated to Admiral Prince Abhakara Kiartivongse, Prince of Chumphon, who is honored as the Father of the Royal Thai Navy. This element connects meaningfully with the temple’s royal-ship concept. Another significant area is the Dhamma Wheel Courtyard, featuring a Dhamma wheel pedestal, sandstone deer sculptures, and an octagonal sandstone pedestal carved with auspicious designs.

 

Chedi Sri Maharaj is another major landmark within the temple. The chedi has 3 levels and contains rooms dedicated to important historical themes, statues of 8 great kings, a Tripitaka room, and sacred relics enshrined on the top level. It is a place that blends devotion, national memory, and Buddhist learning.

 

Chedi Sri Phutthakhaya is one of the temple’s best-known highlights. Modeled after the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya, India, it has been scaled to fit the temple grounds and stands about 28 meters high. Buddha images are placed around the chedi, while sacred relics are enshrined inside. This chedi is especially popular with visitors who appreciate Buddhist art and hilltop temple architecture.
