The footprint was then enshrined on a hilltop, and a viharn was built over the hill, forming the sacred area now known as Wat Phra Phutthabat.

 

Wat Phra Phutthabat is significant not only for the ancient footprint but also for another Buddha footprint discovered within the temple grounds by Phra Khru Nimut Phatthanathon, the temple abbot. This second footprint is impressed on a stone slab and is now protected by a mondop. The upper part of the structure enshrines relics of the Buddha, making the area both a place of worship and a point of architectural interest.

 

The mondop received an Outstanding Architecture Award in 1994 from the Association of Siamese Architects. This gives the site additional value beyond its religious importance. Along the path leading up to the relic area, visitors can also observe remains associated with an old stupa base, showing that the temple landscape contains several layers of religious and historical meaning.
