Bueng Boraphet Freshwater Fisheries Development Station, officially known as Nakhon Sawan Inland Fisheries Research and Development Center, is an important educational attraction on the northern side of Bueng Boraphet in Kwae Yai Subdistrict, Mueang Nakhon Sawan District. It is a meaningful destination for travelers who want to learn about freshwater fish, aquatic ecosystems, fish breeding and the ecological value of Bueng Boraphet, one of Thailand’s most important freshwater wetlands.

 

This site is more than a simple fish display area. It has long played an important role in Thailand’s freshwater fisheries development. Originally established in 1927 as Bueng Boraphet Fisheries Station, it is recognized as the first freshwater fisheries station in Thailand. This background gives the place historical, educational and conservation value.

 

Inside the area, visitors can see displays of various freshwater fish such as giant Siamese carp, freshwater stingray, barramundi, black ear catfish, Jullien’s golden carp and other native freshwater species. These displays help visitors understand the biodiversity of Bueng Boraphet and the importance of conserving freshwater ecosystems.

 

The surrounding area also includes fish breeding ponds, crocodile breeding ponds and a nature walking bridge. These features allow visitors to experience the natural atmosphere of Bueng Boraphet more closely. The walkway is suitable for observing aquatic plants, birds and wetland scenery, especially in the morning when the weather is cooler and birds are easier to spot.

 

One of the most enjoyable activities is taking a long-tail boat trip around Bueng Boraphet. The boat route travels toward Ko Lat and returns, taking about 1 hour. Visitors can enjoy wide lake views, aquatic plants, water birds and the peaceful wetland landscape. The best time for birdwatching is around 08.00 AM - 09.00 AM.

 

Getting There from Nakhon Sawan city is convenient by private car. Take Highway 225 on the Nakhon Sawan - Chum Saeng route for about 9 kilometers, then turn right and continue for about 2 kilometers to the station. The trip can be combined with Bueng Boraphet Aquarium, Bueng Boraphet Bird Park and other nearby attractions.
