Khao No–Khao Kaew is one of the most distinctive natural and historical attractions in Nakhon Sawan Province, located along Phahonyothin Highway between Nakhon Sawan and Kamphaeng Phet. Situated in Ban Dan Subdistrict, Banphot Phisai District, the site lies approximately 45 km from Nakhon Sawan city and 18 km from Banphot Phisai district center.
Khao No is a prominent limestone mountain with Wat Khao No located at its base. A staircase leads visitors up to the summit, offering panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. Along the way, visitors will encounter caves that house a large reclining Buddha statue, making the climb both a scenic and spiritual journey.
This site holds historical significance as King Rama V once traveled through the area during his northern journey along the Ping River and stayed overnight at Khao No. A royal statue has been erected in his honor, along with important historical landmarks such as the “Sra Sadet,” where the King once used water, and royal relics gifted to Luang Pho Yaem of Wat Ban Dan.
One of the most unique features of Khao No is the large population of monkeys living at the base of the mountain. These monkeys are accustomed to visitors and can often be seen interacting with tourists. Visitors are advised to be cautious and respectful when observing wildlife.
In the evening, both Khao No and nearby Khao Kaew become spectacular viewpoints for observing thousands of bats emerging from caves to forage. The sight of long black streams of bats flying across the sunset sky is one of the most remarkable natural phenomena in the area.
Khao Kaew, located nearby, is another limestone formation filled with caves that serve as habitats for large bat colonies, making the area ecologically significant and a must-visit for nature enthusiasts.
Getting There The site is easily accessible by car via Highway No. 1 (Phahonyothin Road). Clear signage leads to the attraction, making it convenient for a day trip from Nakhon Sawan.
