Khao Phra–Khao Sung is a distinctive natural attraction in Nong Klap Subdistrict, Nong Bua District, Nakhon Sawan Province. The area is known for its remarkable geological features, especially pink granite, black rocks and emerald-colored stones. With its unusual rock formations, scenic viewpoints and natural vegetation, Khao Phra–Khao Sung is well suited for travelers who enjoy nature, photography and light adventure.

 

The most striking feature of Khao Phra is the large pink rock formations scattered and stacked across the summit area. These massive stones create a dramatic landscape that makes the mountain visually different from many other natural attractions in Nakhon Sawan. From the top, visitors can enjoy wide views of Nong Bua District and the surrounding countryside, including farming areas, local communities and distant natural scenery.

 

One of the most memorable parts of the route is the narrow rock passage known locally as the “Sok Hin Neep” or squeezed rock gap. This passage is about 30 centimeters wide and must be passed before reaching the upper viewpoint. It adds a sense of challenge to the visit and gives the route a distinctive character. Visitors should wear flexible clothing, proper shoes and avoid carrying bulky bags.

 

Beyond its rock formations, Khao Phra–Khao Sung is also home to interesting native plants, including lan palms and dry-zone vegetation that grow naturally among the rocky terrain. This makes the site useful not only for sightseeing but also for learning about local plant life and the ecology of rocky hills in Nakhon Sawan.

 

The surrounding area is also connected to royal initiative projects, including Luang Pho Krai Reservoir, Khlong Mai Daeng Reservoir and Khlong Wang Hiang Reservoir. These nearby water resources add more depth to a travel route in Nong Bua District, allowing visitors to combine mountain scenery, viewpoints and reservoir landscapes in one trip.

 

Getting There From Nakhon Sawan city, take Highway No. 225 on the Chum Saeng–Nong Bua route for approximately 72 km. After passing Nong Bua Intersection by about 100 meters, turn right and continue for around 5 km to reach the Khao Phra–Khao Sung area. The site is best reached by private car or motorcycle, and daytime travel is recommended for safety.

 

Khao Phra–Khao Sung is ideal for a half-day trip, especially in the morning or late afternoon when the sun is less intense. Visitors who want to photograph the pink granite formations and enjoy the viewpoint should choose a clear day and avoid rainy conditions, as the rocky surface can become slippery.
