Pha Chu, also known as Pha Cherd Chu, is one of the most scenic viewpoints inside Si Nan National Park in Nan Province, Thailand. Pha Chu is not only known for natural beauty but also for its famous local legend. According to the story, Princess Aueang Phueng was deeply in love with Chao Chan Pha, but she was forced to marry Chao Chuang instead. Heartbroken by the separation from her true love, Aueang Phueng jumped from the cliff to end her life. When Chao Chan Pha discovered what had happened, he followed her by jumping from the cliff as well.

 

Chao Chuang, devastated by the loss of the woman he loved, also jumped from the cliff. However, his body landed farther away from the two lovers. According to the legend, in the next life Aueang Phueng was reborn as an orchid growing beneath a Chan Pha tree, while Chao Chuang became a pine tree nearby.

 

In northern Thai dialect, the word “Chuang” refers to pine trees, while “Aueang Phueng” refers to a type of wild orchid. The tragic love story became the origin of the name “Pha Chu,” turning the cliff into a place associated with eternal love, sadness, and local folklore.

 

Beyond its legend, Pha Chu remains one of the most peaceful natural attractions in Nan Province. The surrounding forest remains rich and green throughout the year, especially during the rainy and cool seasons. Visitors can enjoy quiet mountain scenery, fresh air, and the calming atmosphere of Si Nan National Park.

 

Many travelers stay overnight near the national park in order to begin the hike before dawn. Winter mornings can become very cold, adding to the memorable experience of watching the sunrise above the sea of mist.

 

The trail itself also offers beautiful scenery. Along the route, visitors can experience forest landscapes, mountain ridges, and occasional viewpoints overlooking the Nan River valley. The area is suitable for nature lovers, photographers, and travelers who enjoy light mountain trekking.
