Khun Nan National Park in Nan Province is a peaceful mountain national park in Bo Kluea District, known for watershed forests, year-round waterfalls, Sapan Waterfall, Huai Ha Waterfall, camping areas, and its connection to Sapan Village and the Bo Kluea rock salt wells. The park is located within Doi Phu Kha and Pha Daeng national reserved forest areas and covers parts of Phu Fa, Bo Kluea Tai, and Dong Phaya subdistricts.

 

The park protects several important mountain ranges, including the Phu Fa Range, Khun Nam Wa Noi Range, Nam Wa Klang Range, and Phi Pan Nam Range. The highest peak is Phi Pan Nam in Dong Phaya Subdistrict, rising approximately 1,745 meters above sea level. These mountains form an important watershed landscape for northern Nan Province and help feed streams and waterfalls throughout the year.

 

The main appeal of Khun Nan National Park is its quiet forest atmosphere. Unlike crowded tourist spots, the park is suitable for travelers who want to experience waterfalls, mountain air, forest trails, and a slower style of travel. Its location near Sapan Village makes it especially convenient for visitors who stay in Sapan or Bo Kluea and want to add a nearby national park and waterfall visit to their itinerary.

 

Sapan Waterfall is the most popular attraction in the park. It is located at Village No. 1, Ban Sapan, Dong Phaya Subdistrict, about 1 kilometer from the park office. From Highway 1081, visitors turn right for about 2 kilometers, then continue on foot for around 700–800 meters. The waterfall is medium-sized, has 3 levels, and flows throughout the year. The surrounding forest is shady, fresh, and suitable for a short nature walk.

 

Sapan Waterfall is one of the best places to experience the natural beauty of Sapan Village. The walking route to the waterfall is not too long, but it gives visitors a clear sense of the cool forest environment. The waterfall is about 10 kilometers from Bo Kluea District Office and can be reached conveniently by car before continuing on foot to the falls.

 

Huai Ha Waterfall is another important waterfall in Khun Nan National Park. It is located at Village No. 14, Ban Na Bong, Bo Kluea Tai Subdistrict. The waterfall has 3 main levels, with approximate heights of 8 meters, 12 meters, and 50 meters. The third level, known as Pha Daeng, is especially beautiful because the water spreads down the rock face in stepped layers. It flows throughout the year and is suitable for visitors looking for a quieter natural waterfall experience.

 

Beyond its waterfalls, Khun Nan National Park is also an important conservation area for mountain forests and headwaters. Its location within the greater forest landscape of Nan links it naturally with Doi Phu Kha National Park, Bo Kluea, Sapan Village, and other highland destinations. Travelers can combine the park with nearby attractions such as Bo Kluea rock salt wells, Sapan Village, and Viewpoint 1715 on the Pua–Bo Kluea route.

 

The park provides accommodation and camping areas for visitors who want to stay overnight. The atmosphere is quiet and cool, making it suitable for simple nature stays, camping, and slow travel. Visitors planning to stay overnight should contact the park in advance, especially during weekends, holidays, and the cool season when Sapan and Bo Kluea become popular travel areas.

 

Getting There by public transport, visitors can travel from Nan town to Pua, continue from Pua to Bo Kluea, then take the Bo Kluea–Chaloem Phra Kiat route, which passes the park entrance. From the roadside, walk about 500 meters into the park. By private car, start from Bo Kluea junction, turn left onto Highway 1081, continue about 5 kilometers, and the park entrance is on the right. Continue another 500 meters on the laterite road to reach the park area. The viewpoint is about 2 kilometers from the park office.
