Doi Tee Duu in Ban Song Khwae, Sanian Subdistrict, Mueang Nan District, Nan Province, was once one of the most popular sea mist viewpoints near Nan city. The destination became famous for its bamboo skywalk extending from the hillside, allowing visitors to stand above the valley and admire panoramic mountain views covered with morning mist. Although the area is currently awaiting reopening, Doi Tee Duu remains widely remembered as one of Nan’s most beautiful mountain viewpoints.

 

Doi Tee Duu is located about 28 kilometers from Nan city in a Hmong hill tribe community surrounded by mountains and forest landscapes. The name “Tee Duu” comes from a hill tribe language and means “close to the horizon,” reflecting the elevated location of the viewpoint at around 700 meters above sea level. This elevation allows visitors to enjoy wide-open mountain scenery and thick sea mist during the rainy season and winter months.

 

The main highlight of Doi Tee Duu was the bamboo viewing platform extending outward from the mountainside. Visitors could take photographs with layers of mountains and sea mist stretching across the valley. During sunrise, fog floated through the mountain gaps, while sunset created golden light over the surrounding hills. These dramatic natural views made the destination especially popular among photographers, campers, and travelers seeking peaceful mountain scenery.

 

Another charm of Doi Tee Duu was its simple hilltop atmosphere. The area had no regular electricity supply and relied on generators operating mainly during the evening from around 06:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Nights on the mountain were quiet and peaceful, illuminated mainly by lanterns, stars, and cool mountain air. Many visitors appreciated this calm environment as an escape from busy city life.

 

The destination also offered several community-based tourism activities such as traditional Hmong swing activities, hill tribe costume rentals for photography, strawberry farm walks, and local agricultural products from the village. Travelers often stayed overnight to experience the cool climate and wake up early for the morning sea mist.

 

Doi Tee Duu was developed through cooperation between local villagers, Khun Nattawadee Saelee, and supporting organizations that helped create the bamboo walkway and viewpoint area. The project focused on generating income for the community while preserving the natural environment and local lifestyle of the mountain village.

 

In the past, visitors could bring their own tents for camping with a small camping fee, or rent tents at the site. Bathroom and shower facilities were available, but visitor numbers were limited to around 10 tents per day in order to preserve the peaceful atmosphere and natural surroundings.

 

Traveling to Doi Tee Duu is relatively convenient from Nan city. Visitors can use Highway 1091 on the Nan–Ban Luang route toward Ban Song Khwae in Sanian Subdistrict. The entrance area is located beside the main road and can be reached easily by private car. The route is suitable for both day trips and overnight camping experiences.

 

Although the site is currently waiting for reopening, Doi Tee Duu continues to be remembered as one of the most scenic mist viewpoints in Nan Province. Travelers who enjoy mountain landscapes, peaceful camping, cool weather, and hill tribe culture still hope to see this beautiful viewpoint welcome visitors again in the future.
