Ton Tan Weaving Learning Center, Saraburi is a cultural tourism destination that showcases the traditional weaving heritage of the Tai-Yuan community in Sao Hai District, Saraburi Province. The center was established by a group of local women who aimed to make productive use of their free time while generating additional income for their families, eventually growing into a comprehensive learning hub for youth and visitors.

 

The community has a history spanning over 200 years, making it an important cultural site for preserving traditional knowledge. Each woven fabric represents not only craftsmanship but also the identity, beliefs, and lifestyle of the Tai-Yuan people passed down through generations.

 

The textiles produced here include traditional pha khao ma, plain fabrics, four-corner cloth, and the distinctive Dok Phikun pattern, an ancient Tai-Yuan design. These intricate patterns reflect both artistic skill and symbolic meaning rooted in local traditions.

 

Beyond weaving, the Ton Tan community offers a complete cultural tourism experience. Visitors can stay in homestays, participate in traditional cultural performances, and explore exhibitions that highlight the unique identity and heritage of the community.

 

The community’s strong commitment to cultural preservation earned it the Outstanding Tourism Industry Award in 2008 in the cultural tourism category, reflecting its success in sustainable tourism development.
