Wat Phuet Udom is a local Buddhist temple under the Maha Nikaya sect, located in Moo 9, Ban Sombun Phatthana, Phuet Udom Subdistrict, Lam Luk Ka District, Pathum Thani Province. It is one of the best-known temples in the Lam Luk Ka area because of its distinctive combination of history, local faith, and its large heaven-and-hell complex that presents the Buddhist cosmology of 31 realms in a vivid and memorable way.

 

The temple was established around 1874 and was originally called Wat Ratsattharam. Nai Saeng Iaowattana donated 12 rai, 2 ngan, and 17 square wah of land for the construction of the temple. Other important patrons included Tao Kae Heng Iaowattana, Nang Chaem Kasornbua, Nai Yot, and Nang Thiang Yotphet, who contributed funds for the first hardwood ordination hall. This origin clearly shows that Wat Phuet Udom was built through the shared faith and generosity of local people.

 

Later, during the time of Phra Athikan Chuang Thammachoti as abbot, the temple name was changed to Wat Phuet Udom. The new name reflected the natural richness of the surrounding area, which was full of fruit trees, flowering plants, and agricultural abundance. The temple later acquired an additional 7 rai, 1 ngan, and 83 square wah of land, which was used to build a new four-sided ordination hall.

 

The most famous feature of Wat Phuet Udom is its large hall presenting the Buddhist concept of heaven and hell across the 31 planes of existence. The lower level is arranged as a representation of hell, complete with animated figures of sinners and underworld scenes enhanced by sound effects. This is one of the temple’s most unusual attractions and one of the reasons it has become widely known among visitors from Bangkok and nearby provinces.

 

The upper level depicts heavenly and Brahma realms with illuminated paintings and decorative effects, helping visitors understand Buddhist teachings in a more visual and accessible format. It can be reached relatively easily from Bangkok, especially for visitors coming from Lam Luk Ka, Nong Chok, Min Buri, or the greater Rangsit area. After visiting the temple, travelers can continue to nearby markets, cafes, and local attractions around Khlong 12 and Khlong 13, making the area suitable for a one-day merit-and-leisure trip.

 

Getting There The most convenient way to reach the temple is by private car. Take Lam Luk Ka Road toward Khlong 13 and then enter Soi Prachasamran leading directly to Wat Phuet Udom. The temple is well known locally and easy to find through online maps. Public transport users can first travel into the Lam Luk Ka area and continue by local transport to the temple.
