Khun Korn Waterfall, located in Chiang Rai Province, is one of the most remarkable natural attractions in northern Thailand. It is situated within Lam Nam Kok National Park, in the Doi Chang mountain range, Mae Korn Subdistrict, Mueang Chiang Rai District. The waterfall is well known as the highest waterfall in Chiang Rai, with an impressive height of approximately 70 meters, where water cascades down a steep cliff into a natural basin surrounded by lush forest.

 

This waterfall is also locally known as “Tat Mok Waterfall” due to the mist created when the falling water hits the rocks below, producing a fog-like effect that spreads across the surrounding area. This natural mist contributes to a refreshing and cool atmosphere, making it an ideal destination for visitors seeking tranquility and an escape from urban life.

 

The surrounding area is covered by dense tropical rainforest, rich in biodiversity. Visitors can observe a variety of plant species, including large trees, vines, mosses, and ferns that thrive in the humid environment. Wildlife can also be found within the ecosystem, and along the trail, visitors will hear the sounds of birds, insects, and flowing water, enhancing the immersive natural experience.

 

Reaching Khun Korn Waterfall is part of the adventure. Visitors must walk approximately 1,400 meters from the park ranger station to the waterfall, which takes about 30 minutes. The trail is well-maintained, with clear signage and wooden bridges in certain sections to ensure safety and accessibility.

 

The trail passes through lush greenery, featuring both flat and slightly inclined paths. It is suitable for visitors with moderate physical fitness. Although not overly challenging, it is recommended to wear appropriate footwear and bring enough drinking water for the journey.

 

Upon arrival, visitors are greeted by a breathtaking view of the powerful stream of water plunging from the cliff. The natural pool at the base allows visitors to get closer to the waterfall, although caution is advised due to slippery rocks and stronger currents during the rainy season.

 

The best time to visit Khun Korn Waterfall is during the rainy season, from June to October, when the water flow is at its strongest and most spectacular. However, during the cool and hot seasons, the waterfall remains beautiful, with clearer water and a more peaceful atmosphere.

 

Traveling from Chiang Rai city is convenient, with two main routes available. Visitors can take Highway 1211 for about 18 kilometers, then turn right onto Highway 1208 for another 11 kilometers. Alternatively, take Highway 1 (Chiang Rai–Phayao) for about 15 kilometers, then turn right and continue for approximately 17 kilometers until reaching the ranger station.

 

Visitors should prepare appropriately before traveling, including wearing comfortable walking shoes, bringing sufficient water, and avoiding visits during heavy rain for safety reasons. It is also important to help preserve the natural environment by not littering and strictly following park regulations.
