Lan Sao Kod in Chiang Rai is a traditional cultural ground of the Akha hill tribe. Popularized by the song “Mida” by Jaran Manophet, this place has long been misunderstood. In reality, it is not related to any sexual practices but serves as a communal cultural space deeply rooted in Akha traditions.

 

Lan Sao Kod is an open gathering area where villagers come together in the evening to sing traditional songs. These songs reflect daily life, relationships, agriculture, and social values. There are no musical instruments, only voices and rhythmic clapping, creating a simple yet meaningful cultural experience.

 

The term “Mida” has been widely misinterpreted, but it has no actual role within Akha culture. Lan Sao Kod is a place for cultural exchange and social bonding across generations.

 

Visitors can experience this tradition at Ban Saen Charoen, Wawi Subdistrict, Mae Suai District. The annual cultural event is held in early January, allowing tourists to witness authentic Akha traditions.

 

Getting There From Chiang Rai city, travel to Mae Suai District. The journey takes about 1.5 to 2 hours through mountainous roads.
