San Pha Phaya Phrai Forest Park is located in the Phaya Phrai Litthu, Laoma, and Phaya Phrai Laejo village area, in Moo 5 and Moo 6 of Thoet Thai Subdistrict, Mae Fa Luang District, Chiang Rai. It lies within the Mae Kham, Mae Salong, and left-bank Mae Chan national forest reserve areas. The site is also connected to protected forest land in the Mae Fa Luang–Mae Chan border zone and covers roughly 3,000 rai. The Royal Forest Department officially established it as a forest park on November 20, 1997.

 

The topography is defined by a chain of mountains running across the area. The highest point is Doi Pa Mai Kia, a mountain peak rising to about 1,291 meters above sea level. From there, travelers continue along the mountain route past the Pa Sang junction toward Mae Salong, passing hillside communities before reaching the turnoff for Ban Thoet Thai, roughly another 23 kilometers. From that junction it is about 13 kilometers to Ban Thoet Thai. After that, there are 2 routes into the Phaya Phrai area: one via Hua Mae Kham at about 28 kilometers, and another direct paved road from Ban Thoet Thai to Ban Phaya Phrai at about 13 kilometers.

 

Getting There is easiest by private car, as the roads are mountain roads with curves and changing elevations. While the main route is paved, careful driving is important, especially during the rainy season and on misty mornings. A private vehicle also makes it much easier to combine the forest park with nearby attractions in the Doi Phaya Phrai, Hua Mae Kham, Thoet Thai, and Mae Salong area.

 

One of the advantages of visiting San Pha Phaya Phrai is that it connects naturally with nearby highland experiences. Travelers can continue on to Ban Phaya Phrai, Doi Hua Mae Kham, Ban Thoet Thai, tea-growing communities, and scenic mountain routes toward Mae Salong.
