Lantong Mekong Cultural Park in Chiang Rai is one of the largest cultural attractions in northern Thailand, showcasing the traditions, lifestyles, and artistic heritage of six Mekong-region countries: Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, southern China, Vietnam, and Cambodia. Visitors can explore cultural villages, enjoy live performances, and experience authentic local wisdom in a natural mountainous setting.
The park is located along Highway 1089 (Mae Chan – Thaton Road), approximately 36 kilometers from Chiang Rai city center. Covering over 400 rai, it was designed as a cultural village representing the diverse ethnic groups living along the Mekong River.
The surrounding landscape features valleys, streams, tea plantations, and flower gardens, creating a peaceful and scenic atmosphere. Visitors can walk through traditional-style villages, observe daily life, and learn about different ethnic cultures in one place.
Popular activities include elephant riding, ox-cart rides, and traditional cultural demonstrations such as silver crafting, weaving, bamboo handicrafts, and Saa paper making. These activities reflect centuries-old knowledge passed down through generations.
One of the highlights is the cultural performance showcasing traditional dances and music from six countries. Performances are held twice daily from 11:00 – 12:00 and 14:00 – 15:00, offering an immersive cultural experience.
The park is also famous for housing the largest ceremonial gong in the world, weighing approximately 3 tons and measuring 5 meters in diameter. It stands at the center of a large circular plaza, surrounded by sculptures representing different nations, symbolizing unity and cultural connections.
