Pong Phra Bat Waterfall is one of the most well-preserved natural attractions in Chiang Rai, located in Ban Du Subdistrict, Mueang Chiang Rai District. It is managed by Lam Nam Kok Forest Park (right side), ensuring that the ecosystem remains rich and well-protected. This destination is not only a place for relaxation but also reflects the harmonious relationship between nature, local communities, and sustainable tourism.

 

Pong Phra Bat Waterfall, a popular natural attraction in Chiang Rai, is situated in Ban Du Subdistrict, Mueang District. It is currently under the supervision of Lam Nam Kok Forest Park, which oversees the conservation and management of the entire area.

 

The waterfall is located at the end of Highway 1151 and covers an area of approximately 3,375 rai. It sits at an elevation of 500–1,000 meters above sea level, providing a cool climate throughout the year. During the rainy and winter seasons, the waterfall becomes particularly beautiful. The area features several natural rock formations along the stream, which serve as popular resting spots for visitors, including Kradan Luen Rapids, Ju Jee Rapids, and Ruen Rom Rapids. Each location has its own unique characteristics and is suitable for relaxing, swimming, or photography.

 

Beyond the beauty of the waterfall and streams, the surrounding area is rich in natural forests, including mixed deciduous and evergreen forests. These ecosystems support a wide range of plant species, wildlife, and bird populations. The sound of flowing water, wind, and nature creates a peaceful atmosphere, making it an ideal escape from urban life.

 

Pong Phra Bat Waterfall is also notable for its accessibility. Visitors can drive directly to the site, making it suitable for all types of travelers, including families, groups of friends, and those seeking a convenient day trip.

 

Another highlight is the designated camping area, where visitors can stay overnight surrounded by nature. Reservations must be made 2–3 days in advance, and the fee is based on voluntary contributions. This experience allows travelers to fully immerse themselves in the natural environment while supporting local conservation efforts.

 

Food and beverage stalls are available near the parking area, providing convenience for visitors. The site is especially popular among locals, who come to picnic, swim, and spend quality time with family, creating a warm and friendly atmosphere.

 

Pong Phra Bat Waterfall represents a balance between conservation and tourism, making it a model for sustainable nature tourism in Thailand.

 

Getting There By private car: From Chiang Rai city, take Highway 10 toward Mae Chan. Then turn left onto Highway 1151 at km 836–837, where the entrance to Ban Du Market is located. Continue for about 2.5 km, pass Ban Du Hot Spring, and drive straight to the end of the road to reach the waterfall. The total distance from the entrance is approximately 8 km.

 

By public transport: Take a local songthaew (shared pickup truck) on the Chiang Rai–Mae Chan route and get off at Ban Du Market. From there, hire a motorcycle taxi to the waterfall for approximately 30 THB, or rent a songthaew from the city for convenience.
