The Roman Catholic Church is located within the premises of Satree Mother Protection School on Santisuk Road, Chanthanimit Subdistrict, Chanthaburi Province. This church has a long and significant history, dating back 275 years. It was first established in 1711 (B.E. 2254) on the west bank of the Chanthaburi River by Father Huet Tolentino together with Catholic Vietnamese settlers, serving as a place of worship and a community center for early Catholics in the region.

In 1834 (B.E. 2377), the church was relocated to the east bank of the Chanthaburi River, where it currently stands. Although the reason for the relocation was not recorded, this new location allowed for future development and better accommodation of the growing Catholic congregation.

In 1903 (B.E. 2446), the current church building was constructed, larger than the previous one to accommodate the increasing number of worshippers. The church features Western Gothic architecture, a style renowned for its elegance and grandeur. Inside, the church is adorned with stained glass windows depicting various saints, enhancing both its beauty and spiritual atmosphere.

Over the years, the church has undergone continuous restoration and maintenance to preserve its structure and functionality. In 1985 (B.E. 2528), a celebration was held marking the 75th anniversary of the church, highlighting the enduring relationship between the Catholic community and this historic site.

Today, the Roman Catholic Church in Chanthaburi stands as one of the largest and oldest churches in the country, renowned for its stunning architecture and artistic features. The combination of Gothic design and intricate stained glass provides visitors with a unique sense of tranquility and sacredness.

The church is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Group visits are encouraged to arrange in advance by contacting +66 39 311 578 for convenience and guidance.

Visitors can reach the church via the same route as Wat Phai Lom. After arriving at Wat Phai Lom, it is approximately a 1-kilometer journey to the church. Alternatively, from the city center, travelers can cross the Wat Chan Bridge along Chanthanimit Road and take a right turn at the intersection leading to the church.

With its long history, architectural beauty, and role as a spiritual center for the Catholic community, the Roman Catholic Church in Chanthaburi is a significant religious and cultural landmark. Visitors can explore the history of the Catholic community in Chanthaburi and admire the church’s architectural and artistic grandeur, making it an essential destination for both cultural tourism and religious interest.
