Nam Nao National Park, Phetchabun Province, is one of the most popular natural attractions in northern and northeastern Thailand. Nam Nao National Park was officially declared a national park on May 4, 1972. It covers a vast forest area of 603,750 rai, spanning across two provinces: Mueang Phetchabun District and Lom Sak District in Phetchabun Province, as well as Khon San District in Chaiyaphum Province. The extensive area supports a high level of biodiversity, including a wide variety of plant species and wildlife.

 

The terrain of Nam Nao National Park consists of complex mountain ranges, with elevations ranging from approximately 300 meters to over 1,000 meters above sea level. This variation creates different climate conditions across the park. Higher elevations remain cool throughout the year and are often covered in morning mist, creating a calm and peaceful atmosphere that is ideal for relaxation.

 

A major highlight of the park is its large natural pine forest, especially the two-needle and three-needle pine trees scattered across the landscape. These forests create a scenic environment that is quite different from other types of forests in Thailand. Walking trails through the pine forest offer an experience similar to being in a foreign country and are highly popular among photographers and trekkers.

 

In addition to pine forests, the park also features wide natural grasslands, waterfalls, streams, and scenic viewpoints where visitors can enjoy panoramic mountain views. In the early morning, a sea of mist often covers the landscape, making it one of the most attractive highlights that draws many visitors each year.

 

The park is also home to a wide range of wildlife, including wild elephants, gaurs, barking deer, deer, and numerous bird species, as well as rare insects. This makes Nam Nao National Park an important natural study site. Visitors trekking in the area may encounter animal tracks or even see wildlife during appropriate times.

Getting There Visitors can travel by car from Phetchabun or Chaiyaphum via Highway No. 12, which passes through the park. The road is generally accessible but includes winding sections. Drivers should exercise caution, especially during the rainy season or when fog is present.
