Phra Sadet Waterfall in Lampang Province, formerly known as Wang Ngoen Waterfall, is a natural limestone waterfall located at Ban Wang Ngoen, Moo 14, Nikhom Phatthana Subdistrict, Mueang Lampang District. It lies within the Mae Sai Kham Forest Plantation area of the Forest Industry Organization. The waterfall is notable for its royal historical connection, clear greenish water, limestone terraces, multiple natural pools, and peaceful forest atmosphere.

 

The waterfall received its present name after a royal visit on Saturday, 27 March 1976. At 12.30 p.m., His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej visited Mae Sai Kham Forest Plantation together with Her Majesty Queen Sirikit and Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. His Majesty showed great interest in the forest plantation activities and the forest village system. After visiting Sri Phutthan Don Monastic Residence, offering ceremonial items to monks, giving gifts to teachers and students of the FIO School No. 4, and meeting many local residents, the royal party continued to Wang Ngoen Waterfall.

 

At the waterfall, His Majesty had lunch and rested in the natural surroundings. He then graciously gave the waterfall the name “Phra Sadet Waterfall” as a royal memorial to the visit. The royal party later continued to Chae Hom District at about 3.20 p.m. The visit to Mae Sai Kham Forest Plantation lasted longer than scheduled because His Majesty took deep interest in the plantation activities and local development work. This historical background gives Phra Sadet Waterfall a special place in local memory.

 

The natural character of Phra Sadet Waterfall is equally distinctive. It is a limestone waterfall with 4 large pools and more than 20 smaller cascading pools. Some parts of the stream have limestone formations that look like small natural dams. These formations were not built by people; they were created gradually by mineral deposits and flowing water. Daytime travel is recommended, and visitors unfamiliar with the area should ask local residents or local authorities for route conditions before entering.
