Wat Phra Kaew Don Tao Suchadaram is one of the oldest and most historically important temples in Lampang Province. The main viharn of the temple houses a Buddha image in the Mara-subduing posture and continues to function as a central area for Buddhist ceremonies. Its layered roof structure, wooden elements, and decorative details reflect classic Lanna temple architecture.

 

One of the most historically valuable buildings is Wihan Phra Chao Thong Thip, believed to have been built by Queen Chamadevi more than 1,000 years ago. The viharn enshrines Phra Chao Thong Thip, a beautiful Chiang Saen-style Buddha image admired for its graceful proportions and refined artistic features.

 

The Burmese-style mondop, also called Phaya That, reflects another layer of cultural influence in Lampang. Its form, decorative details, and structure reveal artistic connections between northern Thailand and Burma during earlier historical periods.

 

Wihan Lai Kham Suchadaram is considered one of the artistic highlights of the temple. Inside the viharn are magnificent gold-patterned mural decorations created by Chiang Saen craftsmen. The intricate golden designs demonstrate the sophistication of northern Thai artisanship and remain highly valued by historians and art lovers.

 

Wat Phra Kaew Don Tao is also home to the Lanna Museum, which preserves important cultural artifacts including Buddhist ritual objects, ceramics, Buddha images, and ancient items representing Lanna civilization. Getting There is easy from central Lampang. From Ratsadaphisek Bridge, turn right onto Phra Kaew Road and continue for about 1 km. The large pagoda standing on the hill can be seen clearly from a distance. Visitors can travel by private car, rental vehicle, local transport, or ride-hailing services.
