Thai Pharmaceutical Museum is located on the 3rd floor of the Pharmacy Association of Thailand under Royal Patronage building, Soi Santisuk, Sukhumvit 38, opposite Thonglor area. This specialized museum presents the story of the Thai pharmaceutical profession, tracing its development from traditional wisdom to modern education and professional practice. The exhibition aims to help younger generations understand the relationship between medicines, herbal remedies, healthcare practitioners, and Thai society across different periods.

 

The key strength of this museum lies in its presentation of pharmaceutical “development” rather than simply displaying objects. It explains concepts, processes, and the evolving roles of pharmacists in response to social change—from traditional Thai medicine and herbal remedies to Western medical influence and the establishment of formal pharmaceutical education.

 

The museum is divided into several main exhibition zones, beginning with the Origins of the Pharmaceutical Profession, which explains the meaning of “medicine” and the role of drug preparers in ancient Thai society. This is followed by the Evolution of Eastern Pharmacy and Traditional Wisdom zone, showcasing herbal knowledge, traditional formulas, and the master–apprentice method of knowledge transmission in the past.

 

Another highlight is the Herbal Medicine and Natural Products zone, which displays examples of medicinal plants, raw materials, and their applications in healthcare and wellness. The Evolution of Western Pharmacy zone illustrates the transition to scientific systems, modern pharmaceuticals, and standardized drug production.

 

In addition, the museum features zones dedicated to the History of Pharmaceutical Education in Thailand and the Origins and Role of the Pharmacy Association of Thailand. These sections help visitors understand the professional structure, social responsibilities, and national policy development related to medicines, making the visit not only a look into the past but also an overview of Thailand’s healthcare system as a whole.

 

The museum is open on weekdays with free admission. It is suitable for students, public health professionals, and the general public. Group visits should submit a formal request at least one week in advance to ensure appropriate arrangements.

 

Getting There The museum can be reached by several public bus routes along Sukhumvit Road, or by BTS Skytrain—get off at Thonglor Station and continue by walking or a short ride into Sukhumvit 38. Private cars and taxis can directly navigate to Soi Santisuk, Sukhumvit 38.
