Pha Suea Waterfall is one of the most popular natural attractions in Mae Hong Son, located in Mok Cham Pae Subdistrict along Highway 1095 between Mae Hong Son and Pai. The waterfall is easily accessible, situated only about 100 meters from the main road and approximately 26 kilometers from the town center.
This waterfall is well known for its distinctive appearance, where water spreads across a wide rock cliff, resembling a woven mat. This unique feature gives the waterfall its name “Pha Suea,” meaning “mat cliff.” During the rainy season, the water flow increases significantly, covering the entire rock surface and creating a stunning visual effect.
The waterfall stands around 10 meters high and 15 meters wide. It originates from Huai Mae Sa Nga, a stream that begins in Myanmar and flows into Thailand, eventually forming this scenic waterfall. The cross-border origin of the water adds to its geographical and environmental significance.
At the base of the waterfall, there is a natural pool inhabited by a large number of Mahseer fish. Visitors can enjoy feeding the fish, making it a relaxing and interactive experience for both adults and children.
The surrounding area is covered with lush forest, offering a peaceful and refreshing atmosphere. The site is well-developed with walking paths and viewing areas, making it suitable for all types of travelers, including families and casual tourists.
The best time to visit is between June and mid-January, when the waterfall is at its most beautiful. During the dry season, water levels decrease significantly, and the waterfall may not be as impressive.
Getting There is straightforward. From Mae Hong Son town, take Highway 1095 towards Pai. At kilometer marker 191, turn towards Pang Tong Royal Project, and continue for about 100 meters to reach the waterfall.
